DIAMOND JEWELLERY

Diamonds are the hardest gems on earth , yet need utmost care when they take the form of jewellery. To keep them sparkling and shining we should keep away from chemicals, perfumes and oil based items.

To ensure this, apply creams & perfumes before wearing jewellery . Always wash your hands before removing your jewellery and avoid touch while eating.

While storing, this jewellery should be carefully placed in flat boxes and not overlapping or folded at the joints. This could cause breakage. The usage of brushes while cleaning diamond jewellery can lead to loosening of diamonds. Jewellery with gem stones cannot be put in hot water for cleaning.

POLKI JEWELLERY

Polki jewellery needs more care both while storage and usage. The Golden rule to retain the sparkle of this jewellery is to keep it away from moisture. Moisture can enter the small openings in this this jewellery in the form of sweat, water, perfumes etc. Always use a tissue to wipe it after use. Polki jewellery should be wrapped in muslin cloth & stored in air tight boxes .These boxes should be place in a flat position to avoid breakage.

Always apply make up and perfume before wearing the jewellery. Avoid standing and wearing your jewellery as any slip could lead to breakage. While attending weddings do not stand in front of mist fans as this would mean direct exposure to moisture.

GEMSTONE JEWELLERY

Different gemstones have different physical properties. They react differently to heat, light, detergents & scratching. So while for other jewellery types warm water, detergents & soft brush can be a good start but for gemstones , cleaning care will be different. Some stones are of a sensitive nature. Learn how to clean them before attempting to do so at home. If you are applying any soaking method to clean your gem-studded jewellery, do so with care. For instance, you shouldn’t soak soft stones like turquoise and amber for a long time in water; it may damage their polish and shine.

All precious and semi-precious stones, by their very nature, are hard. However, not all of them have the same degree of hardness. For instance, diamonds are the hardest stones in the world closely followed by rubies and sapphires. Emeralds, topazes, and aquamarines come next in the hardness scale. Pearls and peridots are comparatively softer gems. On the hardness scale, they are only half as hard as a diamond or ruby.

As a first step, let your jewellery piece soak for a few moments in a solution of warm water and mild detergent or cleaning solution. Use a soft brush to gently scrub your jewellery.  A soft pure cotton cloth is the best choice for wiping such jewellery.
